A Letter From Mr. Yost – Chorus 2020-21

Hello Plant Chorus Families!

I am sure by now you are all aware of the district plan for the start of the 2020-2021 school year: School begins August 24th for all students, but will be 100% E-learning.  On August 31st you will transition to whatever choice you made: In Person, E-learning, or Virtual.

E-learners

If you have chosen E-learning, rest assured there will be no changes to your status as a member of your assigned ensemble. Regardless of the “period” chorus appears on your schedule, you will still be a member of the chorus in which you were originally placed.  Your assignments will align with your fellow singers who opted for in-person instruction.

Placement

Speaking of placement, if you feel there has been an error in your schedule (i.e. wrong chorus class, no chorus class) please do not panic. With all of the craziness leading up to the opening of school, errors in scheduling are a real possibility.  Just send me an email and I will facilitate any corrections needed. (If you happen to know any students who selected chorus as their elective and did not get it, please have them contact me, as well for assistance.)

Canvas

Canvas is replacing Edsby as the districts learning management system (LMS). Please go to the district website (or the Plant website) for information on instructional videos for students and parents.  There is an app for students and a separate one for parents, as well.  Our goal over the course of this year is to make Canvas a “one-stop shopping” hub for all things chorus, so any time you spend getting to know the new system will be time well spent!

The situation we find ourselves in has created a great deal of uncertainty. If you are feeling anxious about the start of the school year, that is normal under these circumstances. The good news is you are not alone and TOGETHER we will get through this. If we are willing to adapt to the challenges and commit to lifting each other up as we go, I know we will emerge stronger than ever.

Can’t Wait to See You!

Mr. Yost
