Non-Auditioned Women’s Chorus & Men’s Chorus
Students new to Plant High School Chorus begin in one of our two non-auditioned groups. These groups learn how to be a part of a choral program, work with lighter musical scores, learn sight reading, expand vocal range, and learn performance criteria. The non-auditioned choirs are involved in most performances including Fall, Winter and Spring Concerts, Feeder school performances, Madrigals, District Festivals, and Senior Showcase/Finale. Students participating can also earn extra merit points toward their Chorus letter.
Junior Varsity Women’s Chorus
This is a women’s auditioned group of singers – normally the next step up from the beginning women’s chorus. This group participates in all chorus functions including Fall, Winter and Spring Concerts, feeder school performances, Madrigals, District Festivals, Rick’s Café (in the group numbers and if they are selected for a solo/group act), and Senior Showcase/Finale. They also can earn merit points toward their gold merit pins which go on the Chorus letter earned in their first year.
Varsity Women’s Chorus
This is a women’s auditioned group of singers. These vocalists perform more difficult choral selections with a more diverse part range and syncopation. This advanced group participates in all chorus functions including Fall, Winter and Spring Concerts, Feeder school performances, Madrigals, District Festivals, Rick’s Café (in the group numbers and if they are selected for a solo/group act), and Senior Showcase/Finale. Many of the Varsity members hold student offices and assist with the different performances, planning and execution.
Varsity Chorale
This is a mixed auditioned group of singers. These men and women perform technically difficult pieces as well as the more entertainment “crowd pleasing” songs. This is the most advanced group in the H.B. Plant Chorus and participates in all chorus functions including Fall, Winter and Spring Concerts, Feeder school performances, Madrigals, District Festivals, Rick Café, and Senior Showcase/Finale. They are the Royal Court of the Madrigals Renaissance Feast, performing on the stage in front of the spectators. From this group the King and Queen of Madrigals are selected. Many additional performances occur during the year for this performance based ensemble, including at Baccalaureate and other events. Past examples include a feature in the local Dancing with the Stars benefit in 2009 and performances at the University of Tampa Victorian Christmas Stroll. Most of the Chorale singers hold student offices and compose the executive board for Chorus. Chorale is the cream of the crop in the Plant Chorus program.
The Pink Panthers
The Pink Panthers is an all-female, auditioned a cappella group. It was founded in 2017. This group is completely student-led, meaning they select and arrange their own music, run their own daily in-school rehearsals, and select their own members. This group competes annually at the Varsity Vocals International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA). In 2017, they received 4th place at the ICHSA quarterfinals and won the “Outstanding Arrangement” award for their entire set. Past performances include the Mayor’s Holiday Gala, Winter Village at Curtis Hixon, Lowry Park Zoo, Pig Jig, and more.
